Cafe Camino - Antwerp

The owner of Cafe Camino and me share the best ' this is how we met story'!
Awesome story short , it was at a N.E.R.D concert while we were shaking onstage and backstage
 with Pharrell
( jealous much?... I sure hope so)

So one of my weird principles is....
If we have an admiration for Pharrell in common, I am pretty sure that I would love all the rest of that person's interest!!

And what was Lien and her husband's other passion...
noodles , rice bowls, pulled pork, kimchie, and one day making a reservation at Momofuku's noodle bar or the Ssam bar, or Ma Peche or anything David Chang.

So they turned their passion into a reality, Cafe Camino, and do I share their interest!!!

If there is anything that can replace the subject of my dreams, aka Pharrell, it's their sandwiches!!
So deliciously dreamy!!

So if you, just like me, love N.E.R.D, trust me you will love my other love...

( my theory is called love by association ;-) )

For noodles, pho, lemongrass tofu , chicken and kimchie, asian pear, sparkling tea with ginger

Krachtvoer - the aftermath

Here are some impressions from Krachtvoer passed weekend...

It was such a great event.

After having an incredible breakfast experience organized by Otark productions and Villanella
( think small white linnen covered tables, with food that was served in sync with the movie, rum shots, dumplings filled with berries, potato pancakes, leaf shaped chocolate,...)

I listened to some great 'inspiration' speeches by Corazon de Raeymaeker ( grondsmaak boerderij), Kobe Deramaults from In de Wulf restaurant and journalist Dorien Knokaert who had very interesting stories behind their food-journey.

Up next, to the market with food stalls from chocolate to waffles to what food to eat for your health to homemade pumpkin, beets,... marmelade.

Downstairs, was probably the pop up in the prettiest location.. filled with pretty cakes from Tinsel and drip coffee from the pretty well dressed barista from Normo

While eating your cake you could browse through the cook - food - selection from bookstore Paard Van Troje

To end with something I was eyeing since the moment I arrived!
The foodtruck!!
Looove foodtrucks!!

Already scanned the menu before stepping in to De Studio,
looked promising! And it was!

Ceci n'est pas meets LEFT - Antwerp

Absolutely make time for this in September!!

This month's pop-up - moving restaurant has landed next to Bar Left , Linkeroever , Antwerp

Every month Billy Jean creates a dining experience in collaboration with an artist.
and moves around with her restaurant to amazing locations so you can dine surrounded by art, or with art. ( previous one was in a school bus, before that in a greenhouse)

Her take on art is that you should experience it in a casual, warm family setting.
You should see it in use, not just on a white display or canvas
 - loving this mind-set -
That is why she created this concept

You just sign up and let you be swooped away by Billy Jean!
A surprise dinner or brunch, with surprising people, in a surprising environment!

Tinsel - Antwerp

What a great place is this?!!

And what a great menu they have!

And what a great look the place has!!

A menu filled with some great breakfast / brunch / lunch / early bird dinner options!
We ordered half the menu cause it all sounded so delicious!

A tartine with eggplant, feta and pomegranate
ricotta ,lemon and egg sunny side up
avo and cucumber on toast! ( yaaaay avo on toast in the city!!!)
some deliciously frosted carrot cake.
So we tried , tested and...

Sold!

Just can't stop talking about that great distressed plastered wall!!
( Gave me a Buenos Aires feel!)
Need a wall to apply this to!!

And if I don't find one, i'll just have to go there everyday, order a tartine and stare at theirs!
- still have have some things left to try! I wont mind one bit!  -
